Every gift to the WVU Department of English is important. By building a strong network of alumni, friends and parents who are annual contributors, the Department is able to provide scholarships, services, programs and enhanced facilities for our students. Collectively, hundreds of individual gifts allow the WVU Department of English to carry on the tradition of excellence at West Virginia University.
What Are Our Priorities?
The department nurtures many academically gifted students. Undergraduate Scholarships enable students to focus on their academic success without incurring excessive debt or working overly long hours. Such funds also allow the department to reward and retain extraordinary students.
Academic Enrichment Opportunities support activities beyond the traditional classroom that can be crucial to academic and professional development, such as interning or studying abroad through the London Theatre Tour or the Summer Oxford Program or attending a national conference such as for Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honorary.
The English Writing Center, which is part of the Center for Writing Excellence, has promoted college-level proficiency in writing, as well as the long-term academic success of all students at WVU. Thousands of one-on-one tutoring sessions are conducted annually, and not just for the students in English 101, 102, and 103 but for student from all academic programs at WVU.
