The Undergraduate Program
The Undergraduate program in English at WVU offers a versatile major which allows for several possible plans of study including literature and language, secondary education, creative writing, and professional writing and editing. The program also offers minors in literature and language, creative writing, and professional writing and editing.
Majoring in English can help develop skills in communication, research, critical thinking, and focused creativity. Students can improve their understanding of people and cultural knowledge. They can learn how language works and how it can be used effectively in a variety of contexts. These skills prepare students for numerous career paths such as writing and editing, teaching, law, or business.
The department’s undergraduate advising office is open approximately 20 hours per week. Here, majors, minors, and those who wish to pursue a degree in English can meet with four English faculty advisors who can help to tailor a course of study to fit individual interests and needs.
