Specializations

Emily Mitchell is the author of the novel The Last Summer of the World (Norton, 2007) which was a finalist for the 2008 NYPL Young Lion’s Prize and a Best Book of 2007 in the Madison Capital Times, the Providence Journal and the Austin American-Statesman. Mitchell’s short fiction and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Nation, AGNI, New England Review and Indiana Review. She is currently working on a second novel and a collection of short fiction.

Prior to becoming a lecturer, Mitchell worked as an editor for the London-based magazine Index on Censorship and for the online publisher About.com. She taught at Lehman College of CUNY and California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Her research interests include historical fiction, the novel and speculative fiction. At WVU she will be teaching undergraduate and graduate creative writing courses.
