Welcome Undergraduate Students!

Majoring in English can help develop skills in communication, research, critical thinking, and focused creativity. Students can improve their understanding of people and cultural knowledge. They can also learn how language works and how to use it effectively in a variety of contexts.

Our award-winning faculty teach courses in American, British, and world literature, creative writing, professional writing, linguistics, film studies, humanities computing, and popular culture, and our small class sizes encourage student and faculty interaction.

The department’s undergraduate advising office is open approximately 20 hours per week. Majors, minors, and those who wish to pursue a degree in English can meet with four English faculty advisors who can help to tailor a course of study to fit individual interests and needs.
