On
Thursday, April 30th family, friends, and colleagues watched as the MFA
class of 2020 virtually graduated. Despite the physical distance, our graduates’
writing and presence resonated in respective our homes throughout the country.
There is no denying the difficulty that this new way
of life has presented for all of us, but this intimate celebration was a bright
light in a rather challenging and hazy time. Our 2020 MFA graduates have
enriched our community here at WVU and showed resilience, especially through
the remainder of the term.
As our graduates go forward, let us remind them of
what Toni Morrison once said, “A
writer’s life and work are not a gift to mankind; they are its necessity.”
Congratulations to the
2020 MFA Graduating Class. We look forward to all that you’ll continue to do
and write.
