Spring 2025 Undergraduate Creative Writing Capstone Reading

This semester, English Professor Mary Ann Samyn worked with an incredible cohort of senior English majors in her ENGL 418 class. To quote Mary Ann, “My 418 classes are, I hope, relaxed AND life-changing. 😉.” And any of the senior English majors in Mary Ann’s capstone course this semester would wholeheartedly agree, as mentees and mentors grew closer to one another during Q&A panels, art museum field trips, and planetarium visits, among other delightful bonding experiences!

ENGL 418 is the capstone course for undergraduate creative writing concentrators. Each undergraduate student is paired with an MFA student, and the two work together as mentee and mentor throughout the semester, sharing wisdom and insight with one another as the undergraduates complete their capstone projects in fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry.

This semester, we had 16 English majors who each completed incredible capstone projects, with the help of their MFA mentors, and Mary Ann’s guidance throughout the semester. Included below, you can find a list of our graduating English majors, as well as the names of their mentors!
