I am an editorial assistant at FiT Publishing. FiT Publishing, an international publisher in the sport sciences within the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at West Virginia University, publishes books, peer-reviewed journals, teaching tools, and related digital materials in sport and cultural studies, sport psychology, and sport management. My role is to see manuscripts through the production process. I copyedit and proofread texts, send updated files to authors, editors, typesetters, and freelancers, and ultimately work with all involved to keep the project’s timeline intact.
I am continuously thankful for the experiences provided to me at West Virginia University. Working at The Daily Athenaeum, the Center for Literary Computing, and the Career Services Center prepared me for all sorts of tasks, from proofreading and copyediting to communicating with authors and understanding their goals for a text. While I pursued the PWE undergraduate and graduate programs for my interest in editing, I would not be effective in my position without the rhetorical, technical, and organizational skills cultivated in courses like Digital Humanities, Language & Society, and Studies in Composition & Rhetoric. Together, my education and experiential learning allowed me to develop and practice a variety of skills and primed me for my current position.
